Varanus primordiusis found in tropical parts of the Northern Territory, Australia. It seems to be restricted to an area extending from Darwin in the north to Katherine in the south, and from Kakadu in the east to the Daly River region in the west.
A small monitor lizard, usually less than 30 cm TL (total lenght).
Dorsal color from grey to reddish brown interspersed with darker scales.
Ventral color creamy.
Tail round to slightly flat, about 1.4 times SVL (snout-vent length).
