Descriptor : phytoliths

Descriptor type : categorical

Nomenclature from Madella et al. (2005). Silica bodies are observed in the stegmata exclusively on fibres at the periphery of the fvb or of the fibrous bundles (Tomlinson, 1961 and Prychid et al., 2004). The combined type is a phytolith with some echinules founded on trapeziform phytoliths. More studies on phytoliths are required to determine if the combined is not a derived form of the trapeziform in old stems.
