Descriptor : Wall height above cœnosteum?

What is the prominence of the wall of corallites?
The value 'not prominent' is used on the one hand for colonies without cœnosteum*, and on the other hand for colonies with cœnosteum* which wall are not very high.

When corallites are arranged in series inside valleys, the width of the common wall will not take into account. Therefore, the value will be also 'not prominent'.

The values prominent and very prominent is used for colonies with monocentric corallites which are made up of individual walls more or less erected against the 'floor' (cœnosteum*).

The value 'not applicable' is used for free-living corals attached or not.

The wall of corallites is considered prominent when septa are higher than the level of cœnosteum* (cœnosarc). This value depends on height:width ratio of the corallites.

Carefull: the value is 'not prominent' when there is no cœnosteum*.

* Cœnosteum: the whole of the skeletal components located between corallites.

not prominent

The value 'not prominent' on the one hand is used for colonies without cœnosteum* (ceriod arrangement, dendroid, meandroid, flabello-meandroid, hydnophorid, fungioid), and on the other hand, colonies with cœnosteum* (plocoid arrangement, thamnasteroid, scattered, phaceloid) which wall are not very high.

* Cœnosteum: the whole of the skeletal components located between corallites.

The wall of corallites is considered very prominent when septa are much higher than the level of cœnosteum* (cœnosarc). This value depends on height:width ratio of the corallites.
